Christina then set up her own contract publishing business in Portugal, supplying guidebooks in several languages to the Portuguese Tourist Offices in Portugal and around the world, and publishing lifestyle magazines on behalf of large tourism resorts and hotel chains.
In 1998, Christina sold her business in Portugal to the London-based Hemming Group, and returned to London. She then continued her career in magazine and book publishing back in the UK, working in senior roles at the Hemming Group, Archant Specialist Media, Virgin Books, and Merricks Media. Since 2006 she has been focussing once again on UK-Portuguese business, working firstly for an international property developer with interests in Brazil and Portugal and latterly for the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK.
Christina is responsible for the Chamber’s programme of online and live Moving to Portugal Shows and Seminars, which are held in the UK every year and attract thousands of visitors.
She also runs the Chamber’s events programme with the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Portugal. The purpose of the APPG is to increase awareness amongst members of the Houses of Parliament about the political situation in Portugal; and to encourage political, trade and business relations between the UK and Portugal. Post Brexit, the APPG plays a vital role in connecting leading Portuguese companies with British politicians and senior British business people who have an interest in Portugal.
Carolina runs the Chamber’s Starting in the UK (SUK) programme, which advises Portuguese companies who wish to expand their existing operations into the UK market on how best they should proceed. Typically this will include advising them on market research, business development, lead generation and setting up a distributor or agency network.
Carolina will work on organising events that enable Chamber members to expand their businesses and contacts here in the UK. She will also be working closely with Christina on our new members recruitment programme.
