Melissa Thomas, Senior Manager @ Blick Rothenberg
Melissa is a Senior Manager in the International Tax team at Blick Rothenberg, a leading tax advisory, business and accounting firm based in Central London. Melissa, and the wider team, assist overseas companies setting up operations in the UK, specifically from Canada and the US. She offers start-up advice on company formation and structuring as well as efficient tax planning opportunities and understanding the associated local compliance requirements. Melissa dedicates significant time in understanding her clients and potential clients’ businesses giving her a broad experience of the issues faced by start-up companies operating in the UK.
Melissa is a Chartered Accountant having qualified at Blick Rothenberg and holds an Advanced Diploma in International Tax (ADIT).
Patrick Gilmour, Partner @ ebl miller rosenfalck
Patrick is a Partner of ebl miller rosenfalck and the Head of Corporate.
Patrick seeks to build long term relationships with his clients, some of whom he has acted for over twenty years on everything from setting up a new company (shareholders’ agreements and Articles), dealing with shareholdings and the appointment of officers, through compliance issues, finance (both bringing on investors and dealing with banking and security), acquisitions and disposals of business or companies (“M&A”). He also deals with reorganisations and demergers, usually in close association with a tax adviser. It is helpful that Patrick started life advising on the tax implications of the types of transactions mentioned above, so remains tax literate and able to spot the problems which will need specialist tax advice.
In addition to his core corporate work, Patrick has a sound knowledge of intellectual property and an interest in technology which led to him to investigate the operation of blockchain and to advising on the law relating to cryptocurrencies. This has considerable overlap with the law relating to the issue of securities to the public. His other main area of expertise is in the drafting of partnership and LLP agreements and the incorporation of businesses; including (in particular) of professional partnerships into LLPs.
Celia McSwaine, Vice President & former Special Adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer @ Crestview Strategy
Celia McSwaine is a Vice President at Crestview Strategy based in London. Celia’s expertise lies in understanding political decision-making and the regulatory process. She advises clients on government relations, public affairs strategy, and political campaigning. Celia has spent her career working at the frontline of UK politics, including in government, on general elections and political party leadership campaigns.
Most recently she was a Special Adviser to two UK Secretaries of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, and one Chancellor of the Exchequer. She has extensive experience shaping policy, delivering legislation, and in crisis communications.
Before working in government Celia managed communications and reputation campaigns for corporates and trade bodies in the UK across heavily regulated sectors including energy, transport, finance, and infrastructure.
