On Wednesday 8th December, The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Portugal held its last meeting for 2021, with a very insightful Webinar on the background to Portugal’s snap elections, now due to be held on 30th January 2022.

APPG members, Stephen Hammond MP, the Chairman of the APPG, and the Portuguese Chamber (which is the APPG’s Public Enquiry Point) welcomed our speaker Henrique Burnay, the managing partner of European public affairs consultancy Eupportunity, who is an experienced political adviser. Henrique skillfully addressed the origins and the context of the current political crisis in Portugal.

Topics included the reasons behind Parliament’s rejection of the 2022 State budget, the parties and personalities driving the election campaign now underway, and what may lie ahead.
