In Portugal, Cuatrecasas has more than 220 lawyers across its offices in Lisbon and Porto.

Cuatrecasas’ Portuguese roots lie in its Lisbon office, founded in 1928 by Professor Armando Gonçalves Pereira. From the outset, the firm distinguished itself through its independence in legal practice and its strong focus on foreign investment, characteristics that continued under the leadership of Professor André Gonçalves Pereira. Its consolidation as a leading firm in the domestic market, alongside a strong commitment to internationalisation and later integration with one of Spain’s largest law firms, has led to what is now Cuatrecasas’ Iberian structure.

On 1 January 2023, the firm integrated SLCM – Serra Lopes, Cortes Martins & Associados. Through this integration, 43 professionals from one of Portugal’s most experienced and reputable law firms joined the existing team, bringing the total to more than 290 people, including partners, consultants, associates and business services professionals.

The Lisbon office is one of the firm’s headquarters, alongside Madrid and Barcelona. Located in the city centre, it has more than 200 lawyers with specialist expertise across all areas of law and extensive experience in large-scale and complex transactions, combining traditional legal practice with the sector-specific knowledge required for each matter.

The Lisbon office works closely with the Porto office. In addition to its presence in Portugal, the firm’s extensive network of offices across the Iberian Peninsula and in key international markets enables it to meet the needs of clients in other jurisdictions.
