On Tuesday 29th November, the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK had the pleasure of hosting 60+ members and guests at our 2022 Annual Dinner, at the Carlton Club in central London.
Joining our Chairman Mr Jorge de Abreu as our guests of honour were H.E. Ambassador of Portugal for the UK, Nuno Brito, and our speakers Alderman Vincent Keaveny, the Lord Mayor of the City of London 2021/2022 and Stephen Hammond MP, Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Portugal.
The dinner’s theme was the 650th anniversary year (July 2022 – June 2023) of the world’s oldest alliance – that between the UK and Portugal which was cemented by the signing of the Treaty of Tagilde in Portugal in July 1372 and the signing of the Treaty of London in London in June 1373. The latter treaty was last invoked by Winston Churchill during the Second World War, which inspired us to host this anniversary dinner in the Churchill Room at the Carlton Club.
To mark the twin themes of the UK and Portugal, our speakers addressed the UK’s position in the world trading and financial system and the ever closer relationship now developing between the UK and Portugal post- Brexit.
